And 28 more steps gets you this panoramic view of old/ central Verona, hugged on three sides by the Adige River.
Looking south. Still an area largely within Medieval walls.
I took the back way out to see a little African art museum, but it wasn't open yet. (Small places, this is a thing. The one employee is working on Italian time. You get used to it and in this case, I skipped it.)
I went down the back way, all slope. Here a castle at the top with a view north and east. You can't approach it, and no archeology has been done, but they think it's contemporaneous with Castellovecchio. It makes strategic sense that it us.
There is nothing to take a picture of but newer walls, but the African museum is on land that includes a dormitory for retired brothers who did African missionary work. A church on grounds, also no public access. So they are semi-cloistered there on prime real estate with a view and a museum full of stuff they brought bac.
Walking around a neighborhood, I chatted briefly with this plasterer. Them, carpenters, roofers have to know history plus their trade.
